Ilex paraguariensis : Yerba mate
Sara Extra Suave is a fairly recent creation (1998) of the Sara brand. It is recognizable by its blue packaging (azul).
Made from the same raw material as the original SaraTradicional (Roja) version, it has a sweeter and less bitter taste. This is achieved by a lower content of ground leaves.
However, the leaves are always ground very finely and the rate of powdered leaves remains quite high compared to other yerbas from Argentina or Paraguay. This is the usual for yerbas from Uruguay and southern Brazil.
The crops used to produce Sara are in Brazil, in the state of Paraná (southern Brazil).
